A brushed crown coating bridges fine cracks, but it is not meant to fill wide ones. The data sheets for these products say larger cracks and voids are filled first, with a fast-setting patching cement or a suitable caulk, and the coating goes over the top.

We clean out each open crack, fill it flush, and let the fill set before coating. Skipping that step leaves a thin film stretched over a gap, which splits the first time the crown moves. The filled cracks are marked on the crack map so they can be checked at the next yearly visit.
